COD Digestion System in Chennai

Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) is defined as a measure of the amount of chemicals  primarily organic compounds  that consume dissolved oxygen in a body of water. It indicates the amount of oxygen required to oxidize soluble and particulate organic matter present in water samples. COD testing is widely used to assess pollution levels in wastewater, rivers, lakes, and other natural water bodies, making it a crucial parameter in determining water quality.

The COD value represents the oxygen needed for the aerobic biological oxidation (breakdown) of organic substances in a given water body or sample into carbon dioxide (CO₂) and water (H₂O), provided the organic materials are biodegradable. Hence, COD serves as a key indicator of both organic and inorganic contaminants.

COD measurements help determine the degree of pollution and contamination within a water body. The higher the COD value, the higher the pollution load of the sample. During a COD test, a strong oxidizing agent such as potassium dichromate is used to oxidize nearly all organic compounds to carbon dioxide and water under acidic conditions. The test sample is then digested for approximately 2 hours at 150°C, and the oxygen demand is calculated based on the quantity of oxidant consumed.

Pelilab Scientific Private Limited supplies the best COD Digestion System in Chennai, engineered for precision, reliability, and consistent performance in laboratory and industrial water quality analysis.

Nitroplus 15°C is designed and developed to determine the quantity of oxygen required to oxidize the organic matter in a waste sample under specific conditions of oxidizing agent, temperature and time. Nitroplus 15°C consists of extruded aluminium block and is heated with casted aluminium alloy heater which is very efficient and long life. The temperature of the block is regulated using PID temperature controller with touch screen operation. During digestion, the fumes are refluxed inside Air condensers. Air condensers have ground joint construction for a perfect sealing with the digestion tube and ensures no leakage of fumes during digestion.

The controller can be programmed for time and temperature. All digestion tubes are carried from one place to another using a stainless steel insert rack. A separate rack to keep air condensers when not in use is supplied along with the system. Another rack with stainless steel tank is supplied for the addition of reagents to digestion tubes immersed in water.
